SCHWARZRAUM
ABOUT Great intellectual adventures in the art world are often made possible when the boundaries of disciplinary fields are conceived as diaphragms, and the wall that separates decalcifies to open into a gap on the trace of a threshold that invokes to be crossed.

At that moment, limes transmutes into limen and creative action opens to the reciprocity of the gaze, to a dialogue with the Other, to the exploration of the territories of margin where black space is located, that place where the questioning of Form is charged with promise and restlessness, with invention and experimentation.

Schwarzraum moves precisely in these spaces of border and exchange. It is a cultural project that aspires to hold together the aesthetic experience of the visual arts with the culture of architectural design, and it presents itself as a highly selective experience with an international scope that intends to act on two fronts.

The first is that of the Collection and Gallery, that is, the selection of quality works produced in both the visual arts and architectural drawing, and to be offered to an educated and involved public.

The second is the editorial one, which in turn is divided into several types of products-Books, Papers, Boxes, Experimental Quires-presenting contributions, texts, and materials supported by depth of thought and critical awareness.

Two fronts and one goal: to demonstrate that creative action that wants to express itself at the highest level cannot be separated from theoretical reflection on the nature and meaning of Form, on the processes that produce it as well as those that transform it.

Olga Starodubova Architect, publisher, curator of international scientific conferences, organizer of exhibitions and cultural initiatives in the world of visual arts and architecture.

Born in 1985 in Russia, where she grew up and studied, Olga soon discovered her irresistible fascination for the artistic experience and languages of contemporaneity and, what is more important, understood what would be her own destiny, which she would follow with passion, commitment and determination.

Having left Russia for Western Europe, she chooses to live in Naples, a city of millenary art and a cosmopolitan crossroad, which history has been built up over the centuries as a stratification of languages produced by different cultures, and which for this reason becomes for the Russian scholar a sort of ideal observatory through which to trace the nexus between history and the present. Olga consummates here many encounters that will allow her to give depth to her knowledge and amplify her sensibility: with artistic research, with contemporary design, with art photography and then with architecture, which for a long time will constitute the center of gravity around which her initiatives will move in the following years.

In fact, she decided to take courses at the world's oldest secular university and obtained a master's degree in Architecture cum laude from the University of Federico II. By that time, however, Olga had already met her mentor: Franco Purini, among the greatest and undisputed protagonists of European architecture in recent decades. It is under Purini's guidance that she graduates, and it is with Purini that she later enriches her profile as a scholar of architectural theory in the higher education in Architecture PhD course at another authoritative European university institution, La Sapienza in Rome.

In the meantime, she does not stop feeding her curiosity for other areas of design culture and decanting skills and convictions into concrete creative experiences with the conception, scientific curatorship and staging of internationally important conferences and exhibitions of architectural design and auteur photography held in prestigious venues such as Palazzo Gravina in Naples or the aula magna of La Sapienza in Piazza Borghese in Rome.

Schwarzraum's founding in 2022 in many aspects presents itself as a sort of compendium of the experiences carried out so far in its intellectual adventure, since it gathers, expresses and shares the interests, intentions and initiatives that have marked the stages of the path taken, but at the same time sets the cornerstone of a project that with determination looks ahead aiming at a the goal of proposing itself as a pole of orientation and international reference point for the most advanced contemporary aesthetic research.
